"Split Rock Lighthouse"

As many of you know, I just got back from a very cool trip to Minnesota. I got the opportunity to travel north and see some beautiful country that I never saw before when I lived there. I discovered Lake Superior up close and personal and was awestruck at its size and beauty. I kept referring to it as the ocean. I also discovered there are many light houses along it's shores and I captured a few photos which I will paint. Split Rock is pretty famous and I thought I'd paint it first. This one is a 16 x 20 pastel.

It looks a stunning landmark Vic, maybe a full series of lighthouses is on the horizon.. Hmmm?
Anyway good job.

Hi Vicki - I was very pleased to see the measurements and medium included in your blog message. That makes it more fun to view since you are proficient in different mediums. Love the stone work. It pops out at you.

Hi Vicki,

Good job on the Split Rock Lighthouse painting! I have seen that picture many times. Have it as one of my revolving
screen savers.

Take care

Hi Vicki,
I remember our family vacationing on Lake Superior when I was a kid—we had some friends with a cabin there who let us use it a couple of summers, I think, for a week or two. I loved going up there and being so impressed that the lake was so big that it has tides! I don’t remember any light houses, and I don’t remember the name of the town closest to where we stayed, but I do have memories of the lake, and picking berries, and catching tadpoles. I was about eight or nine, I think. I’d like to go up there again someday.

Great job, you nailed it, it looks just like Lake Superior, where I spent many summers years ago on the shores of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Looks very cool and refreshing. Your painting just keeps getting better and better!
