"Mountain River" 9 - SOLD

Ok - this is it - the whole enchilada!! This is the total 9 piece puzzle that about drove me crazy to paint. I attempted to post the 9th piece by itself along with the entire piece. Don't know if it worked or not. If not, the 9th piece is the upper right hand corner.

One more after this and the entire piece is DONE!! This is the center piece in the top row. Maybe we've all been concentrating on water (or lack of it) lately and we were finally blessed by some desperately needed rain today.

Here's the top upper left hand corner - the only piece without any water. I will photograph the final 2 pieces tomorrow.

This is the far right side of the center row. I finished the final pieces on this today. Whew, it took a lot longer than I though it would to do this project. When I get to the 9th piece, I'll show the entire project photographed as one.

This will be the very middle canvas out of the total 9 pieces. Hopefully if all goes well, I will complete the final 2 pieces tomorrow. I got more pieces painted today but didn't get them photographed. It's just too hot to go outside and set up the tripod. Another 105 degree day - when oh when will this be over? You can see by what I'm painting that I'm trying to trick my mind into being cool.

This completes the bottom 3 for the series. I ran out of paint yesterday - 3 main colors and had to go purchase more today. They ended up being a different brand of paint. This will prove to be a challenge in getting accurate color matches for the rest of the series. Every brand of paint has just a little different color mix. Guess I'll find out about all that tomorrow.

Here's #2 - I'm photographing these from the lower left (yesterday's post) to lower right. The total piece will be 3 across and 3 high for a total of 9 pieces. It's amazing how long it takes to paint these. They may be small but are each one's a full painting.

"Mountain River" 1

I'm trying another experiment - what's new? This is another polyptych consisting of 9 pieces. Each piece is on a 4"x4"x1" canvas and will fit together like a puzzle. I'm hanging out here because I haven't finished painting the entire work, so I have no idea if it will "turn out" and if I'll like it. So here's piece #1 - and you're along for the ride with me. The photo shows more canvas texture than you see when looking at the original piece. I had to use the zoom lens because the canvas is so small.

"Wait For Me"

I'm behind on my posts. The other day my friend and I went to see Carol Marine's one woman art show at Wally Workman Gallery. She's such a fabulous artist and can make a still life jump out and sing to you. We were both so inspired we decided to come home and try our own still life set ups. This is one of my studies - not exactly a Marine, but hey -

"Mountain Cabin" - SOLD

This is the companion piece to "Big View". I probably should have posted them together. Once again, thank you for the opportunity to paint your favorite place. It was a fun piece.

"Shear Imagination"

This is a big one - 20 x 30 full sheet acrylic. I decided to tackle the water media again and created this image out of my head this past weekend. It's multiple layers of paint with some of my happy colors. Very messy to paint - had it going everywhere but enjoyed doing it. Hope you enjoy it.

This is a painting done for a very dear friend. This is his favorite view and I did my best to capture it on canvas. Thanks for the opportunity and I wish I was really there in that water!

"How Hot Is It?"

For those of you who don't live in Austin and have been hearing me complain about the heat . . . just look at this poor little squirrel. He pretty well describes exactly the way I feel every time I go outside. Thank you to my good buddy Jane M. who took this photo the other night from her back yard and has graciously agreed to share it.

"Painter's Portrait"

I think this may be me melting in our 105 degree weather. What I wouldn't give to be back in the mountains right now! There are actually several hours/day I can't paint in my studio right now because the A/C just can't keep ahead of this heat. Hope you enjoy the image.

"Molly & The Squirrel" - SOLD

I know this is not my usual subject material, but meet Molly who lives in Minnesota. This is a little commission done of her dog who is obviously enamoured by Mr. Squirrel. Thank you Jim & Billie for the opportunity to paint this.

"Rockport Egret"

ANNOUNCEMENT: I forgot to mention that I have some of my art displayed at "The Daily Grind" coffee house in Round Rock for the month of July. If you're in the neighborhood, please stop by. It's located on 620 close to the corner of Cornerwood, just past Great Oaks Drive. The best landmark is the Bank of America. It's right next door. The painting - This bird held really still for me to take his picture. I think he knew he was going to be a model for a future painting. I love going to Rockport, being close to the water and birds. There's always pleasant surprises and I never get tired of going there.

"Babbling Brook"

Happy 4th of July! We're sweltering in 102+ degrees so I'm posting a plein air painting I recently did of a babbling brook. I can still hear the water running - and wish I were physically in it.

"Abstract IV"

I'm baaack! Had a wonderful trip in the mountains where it never got hotter than 80 degrees. I'm not a happy camper being back in this 105 degree weather. Someday I'm going to have a cabin in the mountains to escape these dreadful summers. This abstract is my 4th of July mood. It's another one that can go in different directions so I didn't know where to sign it. As I'm painting these, I constantly turn the canvas in different directions. That's why there's no real top or bottom. You just turn it however you like it.
